Context of School
OSFC is an inclusive sixth form college with 2250 students, delivering A level and advanced vocational courses along with a small Level 2 offer. Our cohort is exclusively 16-18 year olds and we have a very broad curriculum offer. The cohort draws students from a very wide range of backgrounds. Around 60% of students are eligible for the student bursary and free college meals.
The college has an excellent track record in terms of student progress, with both academic and vocational progress significantly above average in the Level 3 value-added measures. Students re-taking Maths and English GCSE whilst at the college have a pass rate at C+ well above the national average for post-16 organisations.
Students progress to a wide range of destinations. The majority go to university, with a higher proportion than would be predicted based on their GCSE scores progressing to Russell Group universities.
The college works very closely and effectively with local secondary schools, including both 11-16 partner schools and 11-18 schools. There is a range of partnership work including the college offering Improving and Outstanding Teacher Programmes.
Most members of the senior leadership team are Governors in local secondary schools and two are also SLEs (for CPD/Teaching & Learning and Finance & Business Management respectively). We also offer sessions for primary teachers and pupils, particularly in our Science Centre, which has a schools lab that is widely used by local schools.
